Cacti are native to North and South America. Such remarkable plants were totally unknown in Europe until the Spanish conquistadors set foot on American soil. While cacti serve as decorative specimen plants in Europe, in their native American habitat, they are the only vegetation on vast areas of arid land.
Many cacti and succulents are winter hardy and will thrive outdoors. They are virtually disease free and primarily require only fast draining soil.
Cacti and succulents have been favorite houseplants for many years. The many shapes and sizes of these plants and their ability to adapt to adverse conditions, like under-watering, have made them well suited to an indoor environment.
